This may sound like a stupid question, but i feel it is very important. I began tattooing ten years ago and learned as much as i could from the tattoo artists that i knew. All i hear about is licenses for tattooing. However, all of my research has come up with nothing of the sort in the state of Pennsylvania, the only thing that i am aware of is a certificate of apprenticeship. Does anyone know anything about this? Any info would be greatly appreciated. As far as i know PA is one of the most unregulated states, and i feel that this is damaging, i want to be as professional as possible.

I am getting a new arm piece and am an insulin dependent diabetic. Since I am getting my tattoo over one of the sites I use to inject I was wondering if anyone knew anything about injecting over/into tattoos. I have asked around and no one seems to know if this is alright or not, anybody know anyone who has done this? Or if it o.k? This is a question in the discussions section. It is a great question. Any answers out there or any tattoo friendly physicians? If anyone has had an experience with this, let us know.

hi! my name is nathan.. i live in oklahoma and im workin on getting my piercing lic. i have a few more to do before im certified. now from what i have heard. i have to have my cert. completed by july.. but here is my problem. i dont know if this is true and i dont know who im to contact to find out. and if so i dont know the date that it is to be complete.. Stupid Question Addition

I recently read the blog post about stupid questions received by potential clients and thought about my own blights with this topic... Well...these are the ones I get asked ALOT on top of dealing with the same questions that were touched upon in the previous blog post. 1. An African American man asked me once, "Since I am dark skinned, will a tattoo show up on me?" I replied, "Do you know who Dennis Rodman is?" 2. Another popular one is, "Does it hurt?" I simply reply..."Do you want to see the needles?" I mean, if you have to ask if a tattoo hurts at all...maybe you should grab a sharpie instead. 3. Of course...the ever popular question..."How much do you charge?" I have too many smart assed replies for that one to list. 4. My favorite is...and even though I completely understand the concern..."Do you use sterile needles?" I usually come back with something to the effect of, "No, I get them from the junkie next door." I completly feel that tattooing is an important and rewarding career and that taking it seriously is one of those things that we all just have to do. But these people make it so easy to be naughty and saucy.

To me this is the real legal issue with anchor piercings as described by Didier Suarez in his article in The Point magazine by the Association of Professional Piercers (Winter 07). This is a direct quote from his article. "There are more extreme procedures being done by some piercers - implants,scarification, dermal punching, to name a few. These procedures fall into a legal grey area because of the nature of the processes and tools used. Surface anchors, on the other hand, are in a unique category in that they are piercings in some ways, yet not in others. In the following example, the procedure is performed entirely with piercing tools and therefore legally qualifies as a piercing under most statues--but not all. Some piercing regulations define a piercing as a jewelry installation procedure that creates both an entrance and exite hole in the skin, thus differentiating between piercings and implants. If you choose to perform surface anchor procedures, you will therefore want to check classifications in your own area to make sure you are within the law." Legal issues in your particular location need to be consulted before attempting this procedure. Checking with your liability insurance carrier would a good place to start to assure you are covered. We encourage anyone with knowledge of this situation to submit information to share with the group on this website.

The issue of surface anchors and our discussion of the procedure to place the jewelry in the body will initially follow the outline by Didier Suarez of Enigma, San Diego, California in The Point magazine published by the Association of Professional Piercers, Winter 07 issue. In this website we are trying to welcome as many minds as we can on this very important body piercing issue. As disclosed in the article Mr. Suarez works as a sales representative for Industrial Strength jewelry at conferences and conventions. I certainly don't think this disqualifies him from contributing very valid points to the discussion. I am classifying this as a discussion because many piercers have not signed on to placing this type of jewelry in to their clients because of the lack of experience with the jewelry and the associated procedure along with the possible liability problems. Therefore, many piercers are still unsure how to approach this piercing, and a full discussion is appropriate for piercers and piercees to have more information on the issue.
